CMC Markets National Trading Challenge 2017
The CMC Markets National Trading Challenge offers students the chance to put their investment philosophy into practice without putting their own money at risk. If you want to experience the thrill of seeing portfolio value fluctuating, this is it! Your team will have the opportunity to make trading strategies around a range of financial instruments including equity, currency, commodity and fixed income products.

Teams will be given an account with $10,000 virtual money and will be able to trade a range of financial products (equity, currency, commodity, fixed income) on the CMC Markets platform with the aim of generating the highest return on their portfolio to win cash prizes. There will also be professional traders holding a tutorial so it’s a great opportunity to learn more about trading and investing. The main prizes will be for the teams with the greatest return on investment, but also look out for the bonus prizes throughout the competition!
You will be able to trade not only through an internet browser but also through apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, hence allowing you to trade anywhere and anytime.
Competition Rules Overview:
- Teams of one or two students can enter. All teams must comprise of students from the same university.
- There is an entry fee of $5 per person for paid University of Auckland MCC members and $15 per person for entrants from other universities.
- You are not allowed to trade until the trading period starts (1st September).
- You are allowed to buy back until 8th September (1 buy back per team). You will be given $10,000 virtual money back.
Registrations Open: Tuesday 1st August
Registrations Close: Friday 25th August
Tutorial: Tuesday 29th August (tutorial recordings available under ‘Resources’ tab)
Launch Night and Trading Starts: Friday 1st September
Trading Ends: Saturday 30th September
Social Event: TBC
Results Night: Monday 9th October
